Mascot Results

December 4, 2024

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Phase 1 voting for the mascot’s animal selection—it was an incredibly CLOSE vote! Thank you for your patience while we finalized the results!

Before sharing the results, I want to take a moment to revisit the purpose of this initiative.

Our original mascot, introduced in 2006 and refreshed by marketing in 2016, has evolved over time but never fully captured the college’s spirit, vision, and values, ultimately losing its connection to even its original visual identity. With the transformative changes happening at the college, this is the perfect time to refresh our mascot to better reflect our current student body and the future direction of the college.

As the Marketing and Communications team, we are charged with upholding and advancing the college’s brand—not just visually but in a way that tells a cohesive story that reflects ¿ªÔªÆåÅÆ’s mission and values. Historically, the mascot hasn’t represented these critical elements of our identity. While we don’t expect everyone to be familiar with the intricacies of branding, we do hope for a shared respect for the expertise that guides this work.

Now, let’s talk about the votes!

In the first round, we received over 800 votes and in the final round, over 500 votes were cast! By the narrowest of margins, the mountain lion emerged as the winner—it was incredibly close!

We’re thrilled to move forward and can now connect the mountain lion to an origin story that truly reflects the college’s spirit and values.

What’s Next?
Phase 2 will focus on voting for the visual representation of the mountain lion. Stay tuned for details!

This update will also be shared across our student platforms.

Thank you,

Mountain Lion

The mountain lion, also known as the cougar or puma, is a powerful symbol of strength, agility, and leadership. Native to North America, the mountain lion represents determination and pride.

Profile

Personality: Confident, courageous, and watchful. The Mountain Lion is always alert, guiding the community with a quiet strength and leading by example.

Symbolism: Represents pride, leadership, and determination. The Mountain Lion embodies the journey of ¿ªÔªÆåÅÆ students, who are focused on reaching their goals with confidence and overcoming challenges along the way.

Backstory

The Mountain Lion has roamed the mountains of Massachusetts since youth, learning the ways of the wild—independence, strength, and survival. They were once solitary, focused solely on their own pursuits and avoiding others, believing that survival meant staying isolated. Through their experiences, The Mountain Lion learned that there is strength in numbers, and community can make you stronger rather than weaker.

Origin Story / Mythology

The Mountain Lion grew up alone in the rugged mountains of Mount Wachusett, navigating the highest peaks and deepest valleys with power and grace. Known for strength and agility, they lived a solitary life until one harsh winter.

As deep snow and cold winds left many small animals struggling to survive, the Mountain Lion felt a calling to help. Clearing paths to food, sharing warmth, and keeping others safe, the Mountain Lion transformed from a lone traveler to a protector of the mountain community.

When spring arrived, the animals celebrated the Mountain Lion’s leadership and compassion. They became a symbol of courage, resilience, and community, showing that true strength lies in lifting others up.

Today, the Mountain Lion represents ¿ªÔªÆåÅÆ, encouraging students to lead with strength and kindness, to be fearless, and to uplift others for the good of all.
